And two of the island’s most charming stays, The Dunmore and Coral Sands, each offer their own version of that old‑school luxury.
Where to Stay: Two Beautiful Options
Both The Dunmore and Coral Sands sit right on Harbour Island’s iconic pink‑sand beach, and each brings something special to a couples getaway.
The Dunmore leans into privacy and classic island charm, with individual cabins that feel tucked away and intimate. It’s elevated without being flashy — the kind of place where mornings start slowly on your porch and the beach is just steps away. The open‑air gym and lively pickleball courts add a playful touch, and the whole property feels timeless in the best way. Dinner requires a reservation and breakfast is reserved for hotel guests, keeping this little slice of heaven quiet and exclusive.
Coral Sands offers a slightly larger, more traditional hotel experience while still feeling boutique. The food and drinks at lunch were genuinely good, and the views are unbeatable. With a mix of rooms and private cabanas, it gives couples more options depending on how much space and structure they want. Even if you’re staying elsewhere, it’s an easy golf‑cart ride over for a relaxed lunch overlooking the ocean.
Island Essentials: Golf Carts, Beach Days & Breakfast
Harbour Island is truly a golf‑cart island, and renting one is non‑negotiable. It’s the easiest (and most fun) way to explore — from beach runs to dinner reservations to early‑morning bakery stops.
And speaking of mornings, Arthur’s Bakery is a must. Great coffee, fresh pastries, and a short golf‑cart ride from either hotel. It’s casual, local, and the perfect start to the day. Arrive early if you want your pick of the pastries — they’re beloved by visitors and locals alike, and we often saw school kids lined up for theirs.
Cocoa Coffee, near the dock, is another great stop with a solid coffee selection.
A little farther out — but absolutely worth the drive — is Sweet Spot Café. Their smoothies are made with local ingredients, and both the PB & Banana Bagel and the Avocado Bagel were repeat favorites.
Boat Days You’ll Never Forget
A full‑day boat charter is essential on Harbour Island. The water is impossibly clear, and there are countless tiny beaches and hidden coves to explore. We highly recommend Exotic Excursions or Tyman Charters — they know all the best spots, from turtles and stingrays to playing with the pigs or sandbars with swinging chairs. It’s one of those days that becomes the highlight of the trip. If you’re staying for a week, consider booking two boat days spaced out — you won’t run out of island beaches to discover.
Dinner on the Island
For dinner, The Landing quickly becomes a favorite. It’s warm, welcoming, a little more casual, right on the dock, and consistently delicious — perfect after a long day on the beach or the boat. It’s the kind of place you return to more than once.
We also loved Bar 480 at the Briland Club for dinner — great meals and even better service. The Shrimp Scampi and the half chicken were standouts, and we actually preferred dinner here to The Dunmore.
Horseback Riding on the Beach
For something truly memorable, consider horseback riding along the pink‑sand beach. It’s run by a local guide who has just three or four horses, making it perfect for couples or a small group. You can ride right into the ocean, splash through the shallows, and even pick up speed along the shoreline. It’s simple, authentic, and one of the most romantic ways to experience the island.
Harbour Island is all about ease — quiet mornings, long beach days, simple pleasures, and that nostalgic island charm that makes you want to stay a little longer.
